UNIBEN issues notice to newly admitted students on clearance exercise, 2025/2026 session

The University Management has received reports from various sectors of the University on the difficulties being experienced in the clearance process by some students who were offered provisional admission into the 2025/2026 Academic Session.

Management noted in particular that some students admitted into the Faculty of Optometry are being denied clearance into the programme, purportedly due to limited quota from a professional body. It should be stressed that the University is not in anyway directly responsible to any professional body but the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the Federal Ministry of Education (FME). The University will therefore not deny any student who meets the minimum entry requirement clearance to pursue the programme for which provisional admission was offered.

Accordingly, all students who have been affected by any contrary directive on this issue, including those admitted into the Optometry Programme, are hereby requested to report back to their respective Faculties and Clearance Officers for their clearance as promptly as possible.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, and the University Management reiterate that no candidate duly offered admission into the University will be denied clearance into the programmes for which they were admitted, except for failure to meet the minimum entry academic requirements.

In view of the foregoing, all Deans, and Clearance Officers are hereby to note the position of the University Management on this matter, and comply appropriately.

Thank you.
