FUTMINNA SUG update on NELFUND, school fees payment and refund process
The Students' Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, has issued a press release addressing widespread concerns and questions regarding the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), fee payments, and refunds.
In the notice dated February 2, 2026, the SUG aimed to reassure the student body, stating that the University Management has collaborated with relevant authorities to ensure students benefit from the NELFUND scheme. The union highlighted the institution's reliable system with a good track record in handling NELFUND disbursements.
Key clarifications provided include:
· Funds disbursed in July 2025 for the 2024/2025 session were returned to NELFUND, as that academic year had already been covered. The SUG clarified this does not mean students lost their loan benefit.
· NELFUND payments were adjusted to align with the correct academic session due to delays in the academic calendar.
· Students who paid fees personally and later received NELFUND will be refunded the personal payment, with NELFUND covering the fees for that session to prevent double payment.
· Any students who received a double disbursement for one session will have the excess funds refunded to NELFUND.
· Students awaiting refunds after personal fee payments are advised to submit an official refund request letter to the school for processing.
The union also announced that NELFUND has extended its application deadline to February 27, 2026, offering more students an opportunity to apply.
The SUG leadership urged all students to remain calm and patient, assuring them that the school and NELFUND are working to ensure a smooth, transparent, and fair process. Students with further concerns are advised to follow appropriate institutional channels.
