Early Life And Education
Naghma was born on April 23, 1954 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, and she is 71 years old.
She is of Pashtun ethnicity and was raised in a Muslim family.
Her father, Sayed Suleiman Shah, was of Farsiwan origin from Kabul province and her mother, Bibi Mashala, was Pashtun.
Her father died when Naghma was about five years old.
She moved to Kabul with her uncle for secondary education at Rabia Balkhi Lyceum.
During her school years she performed in a girls’ band and developed her musical talent.
Career
Naghma’s career began in the early 1980s when she began recording and performing songs in Pashto and Dari.
She partnered professionally and personally with fellow singer Mangal, forming a duo that became famous across Afghanistan and in the Afghan diaspora.
Their music fused traditional Kandahari folk elements with contemporary production, enabling Naghma to become one of the most prominent female voices in Afghan music.
After the 1990s and during exile periods in Pakistan and later the US, she continued recording, touring and connecting with Afghan communities abroad.

Afghan singer Naghma was previously married to Sher Agha after her divorce she married singer Mangal and has four children together, Lemah, Anvar, Madineh and Kheibar.
