NMDPRA: Dangote Refinery feels threatened – TUC ex-president, Esele

A former president of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, and energy expert, Peter Esele, has said that Dangote Refinery is being threatened.

Speaking during an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by Waploaded on Tuesday, Esele said the Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote feels that his business is being undermined by the regulators.

The ex-TUC president was reacting to the rift between Dangote and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed.

“Now Dangote has made series of allegation against NMDPRA. Now what Dangote is against is why issue multiple licenses.

“Dangote refinery is being threatened and Dangote feels that his business is being undermined by the regulators.

“That’s on one hand, and then on the second hand, Dangote making allegation against the MD of NMDPRA, I think that allegation is something we all need to look at, and I think that’s something we should work on.

“Public officers should be held accountable. We should know how they live their lives. We should know their source of livelihood. And once you are a public officer, that definitely means that you have to live within certain parameters, certain means of livelihood, your earnings, should be made public.

“So on one hand, that will strengthen the system, make our public officers to be more accountable. So for the Dangote vs NMDPRA boss, I don’t see that as something that we should be worried about.

“It’s something that we expect our security agencies and those who are ICPC or whoever to go look at Dangote’s allegation and see if it’s a fact,” he said.
