UNIZIK announces compulsory safety screening for students' elections
The Office of the Chief Safety Officer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University has issued a new directive mandating compulsory safety screening for all students aspiring to contest in departmental, faculty, or general Students’ Union Government (SUG) elections.
According to the internal memorandum dated December 8, 2025, the safety department observed that some students have not been complying with the existing rule requiring safety screening before being declared eligible to run for office.
The new directive states that any student wishing to contest must undergo a safety screening process. The screening aims to ensure that individuals with records of criminal misconduct, exam malpractice, or involvement in secret cults are disqualified from contesting.
Furthermore, the memo indicates that past elections conducted without proper safety screening may be revisited to prevent students with questionable character from assuming leadership roles within the university.
