Kwara orders special security measures to protect school children
Kwara State Government has activated proactive security measures in schools in five local government areas of the state as part of its wider efforts to guarantee a safer environment for school children.
The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, announced this in a statement in Ilorin on Wednesday.
The measures immediately affect schools in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero Local Government Areas.
WAPLOADED reports that the move underscores the determination of the government to curtail the activities of kidnappers who may want to use school children as human shields from renewed security crackdowns.
The measures, according to the commissioner, also cover the boarding schools in Irepodun which could be targets of the criminals who are running for cover amidst widening security operations.
He further explained that the measures may remain in place while awaiting further security clearance for normal activities to resume, the statement added.
Recall that armed bandits recently invaded Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi State and abducted 25 students who are yet to be rescued, even as three of them escaped from captivity.
