Troost-Ekong eager to play at World Cup for second time

William Troost-Ekong is keen to make his second appearance at the FIFA World Cup, Waploaded reports.

The Super Eagles captain made his maiden appearance at the mundial in Russia 2018.

Troost-Ekong was only 23 at that time, and he is the only member of the current Super Eagles team that has played at the mundial.

The centre-back has also had the honour of representing Nigeria at the Olympics.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the last edition of the World Cup hosted by Qatar.

At 32, the 2026 FIFA World Cup which will be co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and United States of America could be Troost-Ekong’s last chance to play at the global fiesta.

The Al-Kholood of Saudi Arabia defender said he is determined to lead the Super Eagles to the competition.

“Playing at the World Cup for the second time would be a dream,'”Troost-Ekong told Olympics.com.

“In 2018, I fulfilled my childhood dream at just 23. Now, with more experience and maturity, I’m ready to lead this exciting generation of talent and go beyond what we achieved before.”

The Super Eagles will be in action against Gabon in a playoff semi-final tie in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday.
