Union queries Federal Poly Offa management over alleged N300m accreditation fund misuse

The crisis between the management of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, and the Academic Staff Union of the institution has deepened, with the union members asking how the management expended about N300 million accreditation fund for the institution.

The Chairman of the Offa Polytechnic chapter of the union, Dr. Idowu Atilola, raised the issue in a statement on Thursday.

He referred to the recent release by the PRO Unit of the institution that “even before the accreditation dates, a whopping N300,000,000.00 had been expended by the management on equipment.”

“It is, however, troubling that despite this acclaimed expenditure, equipment used by quite a number of departments were outsourced. Who is deceiving who?” the union queried.

Dr. Idowu Atilola referred to the “union’s letter to the Governing Council requesting their intervention and explanations as to why the Director of Academic Planning (Engr. Dr. Waheed Balogun) and the Rector (Engr. Dr. Kamoru Kadiri) would, according to their memo, request for the payment of N50,000,000.00 to the management and N20,000,000.00 to the Governing Council when deserving HoDs and Deans would be paid an embarrassing N75,000 and N50,000, respectively.

“This outright display of corruption is not acceptable, and the union would want an explanation from the management as to how our enormous resources are being depleted without corresponding physical development.

“This is a reminder that we are governed by laws, and those laws are to be observed by everyone,” the union declared.

Attempts to reach the spokesman of the institution, Iroye Yinka, on Thursday proved abortive at the time of this report.
