PLASU denies tuition fee increase for 2025/26 session
The management of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has clarified that there has been no increase in tuition fees for the 2025/2026 academic session, contrary to reports circulating on social media.
In an internal memorandum signed by the Registrar, Yakubu F. Ayuba, and addressed to all students, the University emphasized that tuition fees for both new and returning students have remained unchanged since 2022, despite prevailing economic challenges and inflation.
The memo explained that the confusion likely arose from the introduction of a new ₦5,000 ICT charge, which is separate from tuition fees. According to the Registrar, this fee was approved by the University’s Governing Council to support ICT services and provide free internet access on campus.
In addition, the memo reaffirmed that the ₦10,000 Bench Fee, introduced in 2021 as a uniform charge to replace arbitrary departmental levies, remains in effect. Originally applicable only to final-year students, this fee has now been extended to students in 22 departments whose academic programs involve outdoor activities such as field trips, excursions, and productions.
The University also encouraged students to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) provided by the Federal Government to help ease any financial strain related to tuition and associated charges.
