One dead, another injured in suspected herdsmen attack on Borno farmers
One person has been killed and another injured following an attack by suspected herdsmen at Kawuram bush in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident, which reportedly happened around 5:00 a.m. on Friday, was contained in a post by counter-insurgency expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama.
According to Makama, trouble started when herders allegedly moved their cattle into a farmland belonging to Alhaji Kaumi Monguno and others, where the animals grazed on food crops.
When the farmers attempted to drive the cattle away, the herders were said to have attacked them with machetes and other weapons.
“The victims were identified as Ali Goni, 15, who died from severe injuries, and Modu Suri, 25, who sustained a bow-and-arrow wound to his leg. Suri is currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Monguno,” Makama wrote.
Makama said a combined team of troops from Operation HADIN KAI, police tactical units, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters visited the scene of the attack, took photographs, and evacuated the victims.
The remains of the deceased teenager were later released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.
He added that security agencies are working with community leaders and herders’ associations to track down those responsible for the attack.
