Laide Bakare Clears The Air After Backlash Over Taking Daughter To Club At 17
Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has reacted to the backlash that followed her recent revelation about taking her daughter, Similoluwa, to a nightclub at the age of 17.
During a chat with content creator Mr Lil Gaga, the actress disclosed that she was the one who gave her daughter her first club experience and even allowed her to taste alcohol, explaining that it was part of preparing her for adulthood.
Her statement sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians accusing her of being irresponsible and promoting the notion that single mothers cannot raise their children properly.
In response to the criticism, Bakare took to Instagram to clarify her remarks, insisting that her words had been misunderstood. She posted a video from her daughter’s birthday afterparty, stressing that she never said she introduced her daughter to alcohol.
She wrote: “Let me mention clearly here that I never said I introduced my daughter, @simlineboss, to alcohol. I only stated that she entered a club with me for the very first time in her life at her birthday afterparty. How is that bad naw?”
In another post, she added: “No please, I didn’t do alcohol with @simlineboss, only club, and it’s just to give her a bit of exposure towards the future. I’m not as bad as you think.”
Despite her clarification, the discussion continues across social media, with many divided over whether her parenting decision was protective or inappropriate.
