Scores of passengers, including the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission, NISIEC, Commissioner Ahmed Mohammed and former State Universal Education Board Chairman Alhaji Bawa Niworo, have allegedly been abducted by suspected bandits on the Mokwa-New Bussa road.
The incident occurred on Monday, when gunmen, believed to be fleeing from Kwara State, blocked the road near Ibbi in Mashegu LG.
The Police Command, which confirmed the attack through the Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun in Minna, said, on 29th Sept., 2025 at about 11.30am suspected armed men attacked the Police nipping point along Ibbi-Bussa road.
Abiodun explained that the Police tactical team engaged and repelled the hoodlums, and in the process, the Police patrol vehicle was damaged with gunshots.
He stated that one of the Policemen sustained a gunshot injury and he was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
He noted that “Unfortunately, the fleeing armed men later blocked the road ahead of the Police nipping point and abducted some passengers along the road from about three vehicles”
The statement also revealed that the Police Command has mobilised more tactical teams with other security agencies, and vigilante members trailing the suspected kidnappers with a view to rescue the abducted victims and possibly arrest the hoodlums.
