Hilda Baci Declares Historic Jollof Pot “Not for Sale or Auction”
Guinness World Record holder and celebrity chef, Hilda Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has said the giant pot used for her record-breaking jollof rice feat will not be sold or auctioned.
At a press conference in Lagos, she revealed that many people had urged her to auction the pot but stressed it carries deeper meaning.
“Oh, you may not have heard of it. Trust me, so many people have asked about that pot. Some people want to buy it, they said we should auction it,” Hilda said.
She described the item as “a symbol of history, a symbol of faith, a symbol of innovation… it represents many things,” adding that her team plans to restore it and make it publicly accessible.
“We’re not going to sell it. We’re going to make sure that as many people as possible get to see it in its glory. You may find it one day in a museum or even on your way to work,” she stated.
Hilda recently set another Guinness World Record with the largest serving of Nigerian jollof rice, weighing 8,780kg, once again showcasing Nigeria’s cuisine on the global stage.
