Police Deny Rema Ordered Arrest Of Interior Designer Amid ₦386m Contract Dispute
A dispute between award-winning singer Rema and interior designer Amaka Obasi has escalated far beyond a simple online spat.
The drama began on Tuesday, September 16, when an X (formerly Twitter) user named Derrick accused the “Calm Down” hitmaker of using police officers to intimidate and detain Obasi. Derrick claimed her only “offense” was requesting payment for renovation and studio projects she had handled for the artist.
However, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) later released a detailed statement offering a different perspective.
According to FCID spokesperson Aminat Mayegun, the case involves a failed multi-million-naira contract, not just an unpaid bill. Mayegun explained that Obasi, through her company Ardeb Lifestyle, allegedly entered into an agreement with Rema worth ₦386 million in April 2023. Records show that ₦287 million was paid upfront.
Investigators reportedly found the project unfinished and missing key furnishings when inspected. They also traced a portion of the funds to an account unconnected to the contract.
The statement noted: “She failed to provide an independent valuer’s report or a legal representative despite repeated advice and was eventually apprehended.”
Officials said both sides were encouraged to hire a valuer to assess the work, but Obasi allegedly refused.
Meanwhile, Derrick maintains that Obasi is being unfairly targeted, claiming she was pressured to pay more than ₦1 million for bail in what he calls a “setup.”

@OlusegunBigfish:”I don first go para but she should be allowed to have access to her lawyer sha. The money plenty pass make Rema no para.. Lol”
@adewalefajana:”And you’re not smart enough to see that it is a purely civil matter? A contractual agreement for service to be provided is what you’re dabbling into?”
@Ibrahim_Geek:”Nigerians no go make the other side of the story to go viral now. At least we’ve heard the other side”
