Nigerian Gospel Stars Nathaniel Bassey, Victoria Orenze Mourn Slain Us Activist Charlie Kirk

The death of American conservative activist and media figure, Charlie Kirk, has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s gospel music community.

Renowned worship leaders Nathaniel Bassey and Victoria Orenze expressed their grief following the news of Kirk’s tragic passing.

The 31-year-old was fatally shot on Wednesday, September 10, during a political debate in Utah. Authorities confirmed it was a targeted attack, sparking outrage and condemnation across the United States.

For many beyond politics, Kirk was seen as more than a commentator, and this explains why his death resonated deeply with Nigerian gospel ministers.

On Instagram, Nathaniel Bassey penned a short but moving tribute, writing:

“Pained. Rest in the Lord, Charlie Kirk.”

Known for his emphasis on intercession, Bassey’s message reflected a heartfelt prayer for peace and comfort for the bereaved family.

Victoria Orenze, on the other hand, shared a passionate and lengthy message, describing Kirk as a “true soldier of Christ.” She declared that his death could never silence the truth he stood for.

“Truth cannot be killed! Truth cannot be silenced! Truth cannot be stopped,” she wrote.

Orenze further prayed for Kirk’s wife and children, assuring that the Holy Spirit would console them, while urging Christians to see his passing as a wake-up call that “we are clearly in the last days.”

@ms_jiji:”Are we sure we understand what this man stands for ?”

@favouredbygo:”Maam do you just support people because they say they are christian/born again or do you actually test their spirit, look at their fruit and discern? Do some research on this man and some of the things he said and stood for and ask yourself if his fruit is representative of Christ. I am just shocked by the people some of our African leaders support as representatives of Christ.”

@cecilmokodir:”He said its good to have some gun deaths every year so as to protect the Godgiven privilège in his interviews on debate on gun control. His last word was gun violence”

@hildamerryheart:”With what we’ve heard about this man, are you sure this man was a true soldier of Christ?”

@mo_town.peksy:”This was the same dude who said if he ever saw a black pilot, he’d be worried. What truth did he have ?”
