Al-Ansar University appoints Prof. Fanna Inna Abdulrahman as Acting Vice-Chancellor

The Board of Trustees of Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, upon the recommendation of the Governing Council and in accordance with the First Schedule Section 4(2) and 3(1) of the University Law, has approved the appointment of Professor Fanna Inna Abdulrahman, FCSN, FICCON, as Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, effective Monday, 8th September, 2025.

Until her appointment, Professor Fanna was on sabbatical leave from the University of Maiduguri, where she lectures in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry. At Al-Ansar University, she has served as Head of Department of Chemistry and Coordinator of Examinations and Time Table. She is also the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Central Administration) at Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri.

Born on 5th March, 1963, in Maiduguri, Professor Fanna hails from Ngumati in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State. She began her academic journey at Yerwa Central Primary School, Maiduguri, and went on to obtain her West African School Certificate from Federal Government Girls College, Owerri in 1980.

She holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry (1987), M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry (1992), Master of Public Administration (1997), and a Ph.D. in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry (2004) all from the University of Maiduguri.

Professor Fanna began her academic career in 1988 as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Maiduguri and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in 2011. Over the years, she has supervised over 150 undergraduate projects, 35 M.Sc. theses, and 15 Ph.D. dissertations, with five of her Ph.D. graduates now serving as Professors.

An accomplished scholar and seasoned administrator, Professor Fanna has published over 150 scholarly articles in reputable national and international journals and has participated in over 25 conferences worldwide. She is also a Professorial Assessor, External and Internal Examiner to numerous universities across Nigeria.

She has served as Head of Department, Remedial Coordinator, Level Coordinator, Sub-Dean, and Dean of Faculty of Science.

Prof. Fanna Inna Abdulrahman was appointed Graduate Assistant in Chemistry Department, University of Maiduguri in 1988 and promoted to Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in 2011. At the University of Maiduguri level, she has taught and supervised more than 150 B. Sc. undergraduate students; she has also undertaken the supervision and graduated thirty five (35) M. Sc. and Fifteen (15) Ph. D. students in Organic, Medicinal and Environmental Chemistry. Five of her students whom she supervised are Professors. Her research interests are in Organic/Natural Product/Medicinal Chemistry and Environmental pollution, Impact Assessment and Management. She has authored and co-authored more than 150 scholarly publications in highly rated local, national and international archival journal and has attended twenty-five (25) conferences both locally and internationally. She is also a Professorial Assessor and External and Internal Examiner to so many Universities. Prof. Fanna Inna Abdulrahman has been level Coordinator, Remedial coordinator and Head of Department of Chemistry for twelve years, Sub-Dean and Dean of Faculty of Science at different times. She is also Member Departmental and Faculty Postgraduate Committee, Member Board of Research Journal of Science, Member Faculty Seminar Committee, Member, Committee of Provost, Dean’s and Directors, Coordinator, Centre for Research and Innovation, University of Maiduguri.

Prof. Fanna Inna Abdulrahman is a Fellow of the Professional Association of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria, and currently the President and Chairman of Council, Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria in the Federal Ministry of Health and Member Governing Council of Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri and Member Governing Council of Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru.
