Ex-Lawyer Of May Edochie Summoned To Enugu Shrine, Chief Priest Issues Stern Warning
Emeka Ugwuonye, who formerly represented influencer and rising actress May Edochie, caused a stir on social media on Monday, September 1, after he shared a letter summoning him to a shrine in Ezeagu, Enugu State.
Posting the letter on his Facebook page, Emeka revealed that a client’s husband, identified as Chima Aningo, had reported him to a shrine in his hometown.
Explaining the situation, May Edochie’s former lawyer said:
“Chima is the ex-husband of Angela Okafor, a Nigerian woman based in Atlanta. He had refused to take back the bride price he paid for Angela, which led DPA to take him to court where we returned the bride price. His lawyer threatened to appeal the court’s judgment. While we were waiting for the appeal papers, he decided to take me to the shrine. The Chief Priest has now ordered me to appear before the shrine, which they refer to as dispute resolution.”
The summons, signed by the Chief Priest of the shrine (whose name was not provided), included a warning:
“Take note that failure to attend and/or respond to this invitation will amount to admission of the complaint against you.”
@Andikan Isong:”Shrine de issue invitation through writing ke What happened to abracadabra???”
@Shola Arekemose Samson:”Ha it’s laughable. Ha shrine ke! It’s well. U don’t have to go. Call the police immediately.”
@Remedy Ozoemena Igwe-Nwuruku”Go and honor the invitation but go with an armed security personnel. It’s simple for to state your own side of the story that’s all.”
@Ezeama Loveth:”You better go and answer for your mouth ooo Shrine matter no be child’s play.”
@Chris Amagwula:”So funny! I can’t stop laughing. So in Igboland now, if someone is just angry at you they report you to a shrine! I can’t stop laughing.”
@Chimezie Hope:”The letter said settlement of dispute between you and CHima Anigo. There is nothing there if actually it is because of the case already in court. Just go and defend your self.”
@Ugboh Ike Collins:”Wetin law talk on shrines playing parts in dispute resolution? Urgent please.”
