“Most Men Cheat, Embrace Polygamy”- Bimbo Akintola Claims

Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has ignited discussions on social media following her candid remarks on cheating and polygamy.

During a podcast with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, Akintola stated that infidelity is deeply rooted in Nigerian society, claiming that “90 to 99% of men cheat by default.”

The discussion started when Adesanya read a question from a woman seeking advice about her unfaithful boyfriend. In response, Akintola suggested that cheating is not a modern phenomenon but a generational pattern influenced by polygamy and cultural norms.

She explained, “Most men cheat. Your father cheated, your grandfather did. Polygamy is part of our history. My father, for instance, had two wives.”

Akintola further questioned the concept of fidelity in African culture, arguing that many men are raised observing such behaviors. “The reality is that cheating is ingrained in our society. Some men even learned it by watching their fathers with girlfriends,” she said.

She also urged women to approach relationships with realistic expectations. “You leave one man because he cheated and then face the same issue with the next. Even celebrities like Jay Z cheated on Beyoncé, yet she stayed. We need to face reality,” Akintola remarked.

Her statements have triggered mixed reactions online. While some support her perspective on cultural influences in relationships, others have criticized her for seemingly normalizing infidelity.

An Instagram user, @omahlichanwa, “lol these are the enablers of bad behavior that we keep talking about but ok go off sis 👏.”

Another user @bjay_9ja, “But who fear DNA tests more?”
