Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Tiwa Savage has revealed that she has taken the step of freezing her eggs to preserve her fertility.

The award-winning singer, who has one child, explained that she made the decision as a precaution in case she chooses to have more children in the future.

Speaking in a candid interview with Zeze Mills, the 42-year-old admitted she wished she had gone through the process earlier in life. She encouraged women in their 30s to consider freezing their eggs as a way of taking control of their reproductive health.

“Having my first child in my 30s was amazing because I was financially and emotionally ready,” she said. “One piece of advice I’d give women in their 30s whether or not they plan to have children is to freeze their eggs. I wish I had done it sooner, but I’m glad I’ve done it now. It’s like having insurance. You might wake up at 36 and discover your egg reserve is low, and only then decide you want kids. I’m now a strong advocate for egg freezing.”

Tiwa Savage welcomed her son on July 22, 2015, at the age of 34, with her then-husband, Teebillz.
