Valujet Pilot Oluranti Ogoyi Shares Her Side Of Airport Clash With KWAM 1

ValueJet pilot, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, has provided a detailed account of her encounter with legendary Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), during a tense incident at the Abuja airport.

Earlier, reports surfaced that KWAM 1 had a close brush with one of the airline’s aircraft, leading to public concern. Following the event, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) suspended both Capt. Ogoyi and her co-pilot, Flight Officer Ivan Oloba, for allegedly breaching aviation safety protocols. The nature of their violation remains unclear. In a separate disciplinary move, KWAM 1 was banned from flying within Nigeria for six months.

In a written statement, Capt. Ogoyi, the daughter of a politician from Osun State, shared her version of what happened. She stated that shortly after boarding commenced, KWAM 1 approached the plane with a gold flask in hand. As part of routine safety procedures, ground personnel requested to check its contents.

According to Ogoyi, “He was seen drinking from it, and the staff suspected it contained alcohol, which is prohibited onboard aircraft in Nigeria.”

She explained that the singer refused the request and allegedly responded, “Do you know who I am? You have no right to tell me to open my flask.”

Despite security officers at the foot of the aircraft repeating the instruction, the situation escalated. Boarding was temporarily suspended, prompting Ogoyi to step out of the cockpit to try and handle the matter herself.

However, her attempt at resolving the issue allegedly took a shocking turn. “Without warning, he poured the contents of the flask on me, security personnel, and some nearby passengers,” she claimed.

Ogoyi said that airport security quickly stepped in. The Head of Security recommended that KWAM 1 not be allowed to board the flight for the safety of all passengers, a suggestion she agreed with. After securing the aircraft doors, she prepared for departure.

But before the plane could move, another delay occurred. “I made a public announcement to explain the delay while security worked to move him away. Once he was out of sight, I commenced taxiing and departed for Lagos at about 8:50 am,” she wrote.
