Popular Nigerian talent manager, Ubi Franklin, has explained why he discourages his female artistes from getting pregnant during their contract period.

Franklin, who runs the Made Men Music Group (Triple MG) record label, shared this while speaking on the Culture Sonic podcast, where he discussed the challenges of managing female musicians.

According to him, pregnancy can significantly slow down an artiste’s growth and momentum in the industry. He revealed that his contracts with female signees include a “no pregnancy” clause, emphasizing that it is often difficult for upcoming songstresses to revive their careers after taking time off for childbirth.

“So just imagine that you’re investing in female artiste and she gets pregnant, that is over because it would take a lot for her to come back. Mention new female artistes that got pregnant and came back.

“I’m not saying they can’t have children, but first build a strong career. If I am signing a female artiste, I always put it in the contract that they will not get pregnant for the duration of the contract.”
