FUTA appoints Prof Kolawole as Dean of School of Life Sciences
The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA has appointed Professor Kolawole Oladunmoye of the Department of Microbiology as Dean of the School of Life Sciences (SLS) for a period of two years effective August 1 2025.
This is a fall out of his election by the School's Board of Studies and approval of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji.
PROFILE OF PROF. MUFTAU KOLAWOLE OLADUNMOYE
Prof. Muftau Kolawole Oladunmoye was born to the family of Alhaji (Chief) S. A. Oladunmoye and Chief (Mrs.) S. A. Oladunmoye in Iree, Boripe Local Government, Osun State on the 1st of March, 1970. He started his education at Local Authority Primary School, Ajindo, Okemesi, Ekiti from 1975. He proceeded to Okemesi Grammar School, Okemesi, Ekiti for his Secondary School education from 1980 to 1985. Thereafter, he proceeded to Oyo State College of Art and Science, Ile-Ife from 1985 to 1987. He attended Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife from 1987 to 1991 for his Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology.
After successfully serving his fatherland at Comprehensive Health Centre, Birniwa, Jigawa State as a Laboratory Scientist, he proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State from 1994 to 1998 for his Master’s degree in Industrial Microbiology. He obtained a PhD in Medical Microbiology from the Department of Microbiology, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State in 2005.
Prof. Muftau Kolawole Oladunmoye started his academic career in FUTA as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Biology from 1996 to 1998, and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology (Antimicrobial Chemotherapy) in 2013. As a researcher per excellence, Prof. Muftau Kolawole Oladunmoye has won several national and international grants, including FUTA Senate Research Grants, Travel grant to attend 15th International Congress on Photobiology in Dusseldolf, Germany, Travel grant to attend the 30th Annual Conference of American Society of Virology in Minneapolis, USA, ETF Research Grant, FUTA TETFUND Institution Based Research (IBR) grant (2017), TETFUND NRF Grant 2021.
He has over one hundred and fifteen research articles, four conference proceedings and three book chapters. He has successfully supervised over fifty-three Master’s and sixteen PhD students. He has also served as external examiner to many Nigerian Universities including National Open University of Nigeria, Akure Center, Osun State University, Osogbo, University of Abuja, Abuja, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Salem University, Lokoja, Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Benue State University, Makurdi, Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akuingba-Akoko, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He is well travelled, attending academic conferences at both local and international levels. He is member of several academic societies including Nigerian Society for Microbiology, Biotechnology Society of Nigeria, and American Society of Microbiology.
Prof. Muftau Kolawole Oladunmoye has won several awards including Federal Government of Nigeria Postgraduate Scholarship, 1995, The 2013 Award of Excellence in Public Service by African Age International, Award of Excellence as the Most Supportive Staff 2010/2011 by National Association of Microbiology Students, FUTA Branch, Award of Excellence as Hall Master by Akin Deko Hall Executive 2018, Award of Excellence for Outstanding Contribution as Hall Master by Akin Deko Hall Executive, 2019, Merit Award for Outstanding Contribution and upliftment by Federation of Ekiti State Students.
Prof. Muftau Kolawole Oladunmoye presented the 96th Inaugural Lecture of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, titled ‘Natural Products Derived Antimicrobials: The Myth And Reality’ on 13th March, 2018. He served as Visiting Lecturer to Bowen University, Iwo from 2008 to 2009 and Bells University, Ota, from 2016 to 2017. He had his Sabbatical Leave in the Biological Sciences Department, Osun State University, Osogbo from 2014 to 2015 and University of Delta, Agbor from 2024 to 2025.
