Chinedu Okeke Denies Quitting Nollywood Over Typecast Roles

Veteran Nollywood actor Chinedu Okeke has responded to viral reports suggesting he left the movie industry because he was constantly cast as an armed robber or violent criminal.

Known for his intense action roles in classic Nigerian films such as Issakaba, Peace Maker, Shina Rambo, and V-Boot, Okeke recently addressed the claims during an interview highlighted by Gistlover.

The rumor, which surfaced earlier in 2025, alleged that the actor became frustrated with always playing criminal characters and reportedly asked filmmakers to give him softer, more diverse roles. Some even speculated that public perception had started to confuse his on-screen persona with real life, allegedly prompting him to step away from Nollywood.

However, Okeke has now firmly denied these claims, stating he never made such comments and remains proud of the roles that shaped his career.

He said: “What do you think made me who I am today? It’s action movies, so why would I complain? I never granted that interview.“

He went on to express his readiness to return to the screen, adding that he’s available for any kind of role from action to romance.

“Please, producers, call me now. I want to work. I’m redundant and looking for work, any role. Be it the role of an armed robber or assassin. If you have a romantic role too, bring it, I want it and make people understand that I can do anything.”

Okeke’s candid remarks have resonated with fans who grew up watching his gritty performances and are excited about the prospect of his return to Nollywood.
