DJ Dimplenipple Recounts Immigration Mistreatment in the Philippines

What was meant to be a career-defining international gig turned into a distressing nightmare for Nigerian DJ and media personality, DJ Dimplenipple, as she shared a painful account of her experience at the Manila airport in the Philippines.

In a candid Instagram post, the entertainer described the emotional trauma she endured during a recent trip meant for a performance. Accompanied by her best friend, she stated that all necessary documentation including valid visas, invitation letters, and sponsorships from event organizers CCMNL were in place. Still, nothing could have prepared them for what followed.

“We were racially profiled, humiliated, and treated like criminals,” she wrote.

Upon their arrival, DJ Dimplenipple said the immigration officers’ behavior was cold and unfriendly. After submitting all documents and answering questions, they were abruptly taken to a supervisor’s office and detained without any clear reason.

She described being interrogated for hours, searched multiple times, and shadowed like suspects. Their suitcases were thoroughly inspected using sniffer dogs and cameras. Officers even combed through personal items like underwear, haircare products, and empty bottles all while denying the duo the right to record the incident.

“They made us open our suitcases and went through everything, including our underwear, skincare, hair products, and even empty containers… They found nothing.”

Despite support from the Nigerian Embassy in Manila and efforts by the event organizers, the immigration officials ultimately denied them entry, giving a vague excuse that it was a “personal decision” without further explanation.

She described the holding area as cold, frightening, and inhumane filled with surveillance cameras (even in bathrooms), crying children, and people who claimed to have been detained for months without seeing sunlight.

“One man screamed randomly. Others said he had been there for four months without seeing sunlight. A fellow Nigerian told me, ‘If Nigeria was working, most of us would never leave.’ That hit me deeply,” she wrote.

Though the outcome didn’t change, DJ Dimplenipple praised the Nigerian Embassy for their prompt and consistent efforts, including arriving at 4 a.m., making calls, and staying present throughout the ordeal.

“Thank you for showing up, standing with us, and doing all you could. We saw you. We felt your support. We are grateful,” she said in a follow-up post.

Despite the emotional toll, she used the moment to highlight the systemic racism and mistreatment many Africans face abroad, especially in countries that issue visas only to treat travelers with suspicion upon arrival.

“Why issue us visas only to detain us like criminals when we arrive? This cannot continue. Enough is enough.”

Her story has sparked reactions across social media, igniting conversations about racial profiling, immigration injustice, and the need for stronger diplomatic protections for African travelers.
