Popular skit maker and comedian, White Olasunkanmi Barry, also known as Son of the Prophet, has opened up about why he decided to stop his well-known impressions of Bishop David Oyedepo.

In a recent interview with comedian Teju Babyface, Barry shared that although the skits brought him widespread attention online, he was silently battling emotional struggles behind the scenes.

While many fans found the content hilarious, Barry said others saw it differently. According to him, “A lot of people sent in messages saying I was creating curses for myself. They would ask, ‘Did Bishop David Oyedepo really approve this?’ Some messages would just break me.”

He continued, “Some people even said, ‘Why can’t you create your own path?’ And I kept asking, what if this is my path?”

Back in 2024, Barry’s announcement that he would no longer portray the character surprised many. Looking back, he explained, “If someone had told me that a day like this would come, I would have argued it. But the truth is, it became a personal burden.”

He said the decision was painful but necessary for his peace and spiritual growth. Despite ending the act, Barry stressed his admiration for Bishop Oyedepo, saying, “It has been a great honour and privilege to walk in the steps of God’s servant.” He clarified the move was not out of disrespect, but from deep self-reflection.
