British R&B Star Jane Eugene Arrested in U.S. for Alleged 26-Year Visa Overstay

Jane Eugene, 62, lead singer of the 1980s British R&B group Loose Ends, has been arrested by U.S. immigration officials for allegedly overstaying her visa by 26 years.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Eugene was detained at the Niagara Falls border after being denied entry into Canada on May 3, 2025. She had been living in Los Angeles and performing across the U.S. with a stateside version of Loose Ends.

Officials revealed she applied for a green card in 1999 despite already overstaying her visa. She now faces removal proceedings and could be banned from re-entering the U.S. for 10 years.

Loose Ends rose to fame in 1985 with their hit Hangin’ on a String (Contemplating), the first by a British band to top the U.S. Billboard R&B chart.
