DJ Neptune Shares Why He Deeply Respects Late Rapper Dagrin

Renowned Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Neptune, has opened up about his admiration for the late rap icon Dagrin, recalling a memorable studio session that left a lasting impression on him.

In an interview with HipTV, Neptune revealed that he holds immense respect for Dagrin, particularly due to the rapper’s speed and lyrical mastery in the studio.

“If there’s one artist I respect so much, it’s Dagrin,” he shared. “When we recorded the remix of ‘123,’ he delivered his verse in 8 minutes.”

According to Neptune, the moment was unforgettable and solidified his belief in Dagrin’s rare talent and work ethic.

Dagrin, widely celebrated as a pioneer in indigenous Nigerian hip-hop, made a massive impact with his 2009 album “CEO”, which gained further acclaim following his untimely death in 2010.

With over a decade in the industry, DJ Neptune has built a successful career, collaborating with top Afrobeats stars like Davido, Burna Boy, Omah Lay, and more. In 2020, his chart-topping single “Nobody” featuring Mr. Eazi and Joeboy became a smash hit, eventually winning Song of the Year at the Headies Awards.
