Veteran Nigerian highlife musician Bright Chimezie has expressed his appreciation after Afrobeats superstar Davido openly credited him as a musical influence.

In a recent interview with Hip TV, Chimezie said he was pleasantly surprised when Davido revealed that his classic track, Because Of English, served as inspiration for the hit single With You, which features Omah Lay.

“Words cannot describe how I feel. I’m so delighted. I feel honoured. And I’m grateful to Davido for recognising that he drew inspiration from me,” he said.

“I didn’t even know that his song With You was inspired by my song Because Of English. He was the person who made me to understand that. He put a call across to me and confessed that he was inspired by my song. The humility and everything, I feel so happy about it.”

The music legend, who also made a cameo appearance in the newly released music video for With You, shared that Davido personally called to acknowledge the influence of his song.

Chimezie, who recently signed a publishing deal with Sony Music, added that he is still active in the music industry. He noted that he and other veteran artists chose to step back to give room for the younger generation to shine.
