Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has issued an important announcement to all fresh and returning students regarding their eligibility for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). According to the University's latest Special Bulletin (Vol. XLIII No. 37), only students who have completed their university registration by July 31, 2025, will be eligible to apply for the federal loan scheme.

The management emphasized that late registrations will not be entertained, and the NELFUND agency will not process any applications submitted after the deadline. Students are strongly advised to complete their registration promptly to avoid missing out on the financial aid opportunity.

The bulletin outlines a detailed step-by-step guide for the loan application process, starting with eligibility requirements. To qualify, applicants must:

Have secured admission and obtained their JAMB admission letter,

Possess a valid Bank Verification Number (BVN),

Be Nigerian citizens with a National Identification Number (NIN), and

Be undertaking full-time studies.

Application Process Overview

Students are to begin the application process by visiting the official NELFUND website: www.nelf.gov.ng. Applicants must create an account using their JAMB registration number, NIN, and registration number from their institution. The process includes JAMB and NIN verification, email registration, and password setup.

Upon successful verification, students must complete their profile by providing contact details, educational background, and bank information. A congratulatory message will confirm that their Student Loan Application Profile (SLAP) has been updated.
