Rudeboy Warns Nigerians Against Clout-Chasing on Social Media
Nigerian music star Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has voiced his concern over the increasing misuse of social media by young Nigerians.
The Reason With Me crooner took to his Instagram Stories to issue a stern warning, stating that the quest for online clout and trends could lead many down a destructive path.
“Social media is going to destroy a lot of people… You might think it’s just cruise, clout, or to trend… Your eye go clear.” he wrote.
Rudeboy’s remarks add to the growing conversation around the unchecked use of digital platforms in the country. While social media has become a powerful tool for expression and entrepreneurship, it has also been misused for cyberbullying, fake news, and attention-seeking stunts.
Nigeria currently lacks a dedicated regulatory body for social media, and past attempts to introduce a regulatory bill in the National Assembly have faced backlash from the public, with critics calling it a threat to free speech.
As online culture continues to shape society, Rudeboy’s cautionary message serves as a reminder of the potential real-world consequences behind virtual behavior.
