Navy destroys eight illegal crude oil refining sites in Delta

The Nigerian Navy said that its personnel busted and destroyed eight illegal crude oil refining sites in Delta State.

The Navy also stated that it seized thousands of litres of stolen crude and refined products during the operations.

Commanding Officer of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos, Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, confirmed the operations while speaking to journalists in Warri on Tuesday.

Okoloagu stated that the operations were conducted as part of Operation DELTA SANITY II, a strategic initiative aimed at curbing economic sabotage in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region.

“In total, the three operations led to the deactivation of eight illegal refining sites, with the seizure of approximately 16,040 litres of stolen crude oil and 1,650 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO),” Okoloagu disclosed.

He explained that the illegal refining materials were found concealed in two makeshift refining ovens, 43 dugout pits, and 18 polythene sacks.
