Man stabs friend to death over missing stabilizer in Ondo

A 23-year-old tailor, Faith Adeola, popularly known as ‘Chelsea,’ has been arraigned in an Akure Magistrates’ Court for the alleged murder of a middle-aged man, Gbenga Olotu, during a violent dispute.

The incident occurred on May 10, 2025, in Ikese community, Oka-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The defendant and the deceased, who regarded each other as “street brothers”, engaged in a heated argument after Olotu accused Adeola of misplacing his stabilizer.

The situation escalated when Olotu, allegedly under the influence of hard drugs, brandished a knife and attempted to attack both Adeola and his wife during which Adeola wrestled the weapon from Olotu and fatally stabbed him in the chest.

The deceased was said to have been rushed to a nearby medical center but was pronounced dead upon arrival due to excessive blood loss.

The case was initially reported at the Oka-Akoko Police Division before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure, the state capital.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Folashade Adeyemi informed the court that Adeola’s actions violated Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Ondo State (2006), which pertain to murder and unlawful acts resulting in death.

The charge read, “Faith Adeola ‘m’, on May 10, 2025, at about 2:30, at Ikese community, Oka-Akoko, in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did unlawfully stab one Olotu Gbenga ‘m’ a.k.a. ‘Zagazar” with a knife in his chest and also hit him with wood on his body, which resulted in his death.”

With the defendant’s plea not taken, Adeyemi prayed the court to remand Adeola to the correctional centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The magistrate, Mrs R.I. Adelakin, therefore adjourned the case till May 29 for the hearing of the application and ruling, with the defendant subsequently remanded at the SCID, Akure.
