Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars Release Date Delay Was for a Good Reason

Both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were delayed yesterday, a move that has more to do with the box office and behind-the-scenes planning, according to a new report.

Why was Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars delayed?

According to a report from Deadline, the delays allow Disney to focus more on the “gargantuan vision” of both movies. With both projects looking to be among the biggest films ever made, Deadline noted, it lets the company focus more on the projects.

Deadline also noted that Disney chose the new dates — December 18, 2026, for Doomsday and December 17, 2027, for Secret Wars — due to the success they’ve had in the holidays with past Marvel Studios films. Spider-Man: No Way Home was also released in December of 2021 and was a massive success for the company, earning just shy of $2 billion.

So far, a ton of actors have been confirmed to be a part of Doomsday. These include Chris Hemsworth’s, Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman/Sue Storm, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright’s Shuri/Black Panther, and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man.

More names for the upcoming movie include Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent/John Walker, Tenoch Huerta’s Namor, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing/Ben Grimm, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer’s Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast, Lewis Pullman’s Bob/Sentry, Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm/Human Torch, David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian, Winston Duke‘s M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen‘s Ava Starr/Ghost, and Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki.

Several X-Men characters are also coming back for the upcoming movie, including Patrick Stewart‘s Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen‘s Magneto, Alan Cumming‘s Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn‘s Mystique, James Marsden‘s Cyclops, and Channing Tatum‘s Gambit.

Additional names include Pedro Pascal‘s Reed Richards.
