Scarlett Johansson Reveals If She’d Direct an MCU Movie
Scarlett Johansson recently opened up about a potential return for the MCU, and in a way that fans might not have expected.
Would Scarlett Johansson direct an MCU movie?
Speaking to Deadline at Cannes Film Festival, Johansson was asked about a potential return to the world of Marvel, and if she’d ever direct a big action movie like a Marvel film. The Black Widow star said it’d be unlikely she ever comes back as the character, but is open to directing an MCU movie in the future.
“I think the movies that I like that are big action movies also have the human connectivity piece,” Johansson said. “Even producing Black Widow and being a part of the production of that, and the development of the story, and the story between Natasha and Yelena… [there is] I think, a way of doing it, a way of maintaining the integrity of the idea of human connection, family, disappointment, all of the things that were themes in [Eleanor the Great], and doing it in a giant way in a giant universe — there’s ways of doing that… So, yeah, definitely, it could be, it would be fun.”
Johansson’s potential final starring role in the MCU came in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. She was also an executive producer on 2025’s Thunderbolts*, although she had no appearance in the ensemble film.
Up next for the star is a role in Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, as well as the blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth.
