Jason Momoa’s Street Fighter Character Revealed
Following Jason Momoa‘s casting in the Street Fighter movie, the Aquaman vet’s character in the upcoming new film adaptation of the popular video game series has been seemingly revealed. Besides Street Fighter, Momoa is also currently attached to star in another high-profile franchise in the form of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a new DC movie in which he’ll be playing the role of Lobo.
What is known about Jason Momoa’s Blanka?
According to journalist Borys Kit, Momoa has reportedly signed on to portray the green-skinned Blanka, who first appeared in Capcom’s Street Fighter II game in 1991. He’s described as a feral man from the Brazilian jungle. In the 1994 live-action adaptation, Blanka was portrayed by Robert Mammone. However, the character was combined with another Street Fighter character, Charlie, from the Street Fighter Zero game.
The upcoming Street Fighter movie will be directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) from a screenplay written by Dalan Musson. Sakurai is no stranger to adapting video games, as he previously directed episodes of the Peacock series Twisted Metal. The ensemble cast will also include Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, and Roman Reigns, with Koji and Centineo reportedly set to play the respective roles of Ryu and Ken.
Further details about the project’s plot are still under wraps. Before Sakurai boarded the project, Talk to Me and Bring Her Back directing duo Danny and Michael Philippou were previously enlisted to direct the movie. At the moment, Legendary has yet to reveal its official theatrical release date.
