Chief of War Teaser Trailer: Jason Momoa Stars in Apple’s Newest Epic Saga

Apple TV+ has finally released the first Chief of War teaser trailer for the upcoming epic historical drama led by Aquaman star Jason Momoa. This marks Momoa’s latest collaboration with the streamer after previously headlining the sci-fi epic series See, which lasted for three seasons from 2019-2022. Chief of War is scheduled to debut on August 1, 2025.

“The story follows the epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonization of Hawai‘i at the turn of the 18th century. Told from an indigenous perspective, Chief of War is a passion project for creators Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, who both share native Hawaiian heritage,” reads the official synopsis.

What happens in the Chief of War teaser trailer?

The video provides viewers with a closer look at Momoa as a Native Hawaiian warrior named Kaʻiana. The teaser also highlights the show’s epic scale and thrilling fight sequences. The ensemble cast features a predominantly Polynesian cast, including Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, newcomer Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale’o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, Te Kohe Tuhaka, and Benjamin Hoetjes.

Chief of War is co-written and executive produced by Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, with Doug Jung set as the showrunner. The epic story follows the unification and colonization of Hawaii from an indigenous point of view. The series is executive produced by Jung, Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Erik Holmberg, and Justin Chon, who also serves as the director for the first two episodes. It is produced by Endeavor Content and Chernin Entertainment.
