Tom Cruise Left Oscar-Winning Director ‘So F—ing Impressed’ on New Movie
Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu has opened up about what it was like working with Tom Cruise on his newest directorial feature, which has already wrapped up its production. Unlike his acclaimed Leonardo DiCaprio-led movie The Revenant, his upcoming comedy movie was filmed in Pinewood Studios in London.
Written and directed by Iñárritu, the project will also star Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, Emma D’Arcy, and more. Warner Bros. Pictures will be releasing the movie in theaters on October 2, 2026.
Alejandro González Iñárritu on working with Tom Cruise
During a recent interview, Iñárritu was asked about his new project with Cruise, teasing that the blockbuster star’s performance in the movie will be unexpected to moviegoers who were used to his action roles.
“The only thing I will tell you, and don’t tell anybody, is that it’s nothing of that,” Iñárritu said. “I’m so excited. It was an incredible experience with Tom, Sandra Huller, Jesse Plemmons, with Riz Ahmed, but it’s a character driven film mounted on the shoulders of Tom which I knew he was exactly the right person.”
In addition, the director also expressed how impressed he was with Cruise’s range and versatility. “This is a wild comedy of catastrophic proportions. It’s insane. He makes me laugh every day. The range that I discovered working with Tom is unprecedented for me as a director. I was so fucking impressed and happy.”
Iñárritu continued, “He gives himself. He has an incredible sense of passion. It’s a brutal comedy. It’s a wild comedy of human nature. It’s scary and funny. It’s beautiful. I will start editing next week.”
