Viewers began questioning Isobel’s fate after the character collapsed in the finale’s last scene, moments after surviving a deadly explosion. With her Season 8 fate unclear, De La Garza addressed the cliffhanger and teased what’s next for Isobel.

In the FBI Season 7 finale, titled “A New Day,” a mini device hidden in a government-issued phone explodes during a coordinated attack. Isobel (played by Alana de la Garza) gets caught in the blast and collapses in the final moments.

While her teammates believe she has died, Isobel later reveals she faked her allegiance to the corrupt deputy assistant director to secretly record his orders to kill federal agents. However, just after exposing him, she collapses and shows no pulse.

Alana De La Garza addressed Isobel’s fate in a video interview with TV Insider, saying, “Literally, you have to tune in to see. It is a legit cliffhanger.” She added, “It was very exciting and very fun to play, unlike anything I’ve ever played before for sure. So that was fun.”

Jeremy Sisto, who plays Jubal, commented on the potential impact of her death. “It would be a huge blow to the office and to Jubal and to obviously the show as well. We are all hoping that that is not the case.” He emphasized, “One of the reasons our show works is because all the characters fill a necessary role within this family, and so it would be a real shame to break something that’s working so well.”

De La Garza also spoke about the relationship between Isobel and Jubal. “They’re both bosses. And although she’s his boss, she turns to him as a confidant as well… They are friends as well. It’s fun, and we’re friends in real life.”

Sisto added that the events raise concerns about infiltration. “The insecurity comes from, how are these people being turned?… It’s just going to make them go further in that direction, double check someone’s MO and what their objectives are.”
