Cillian Murphy & Daniel Craig in Talks for Lead Roles in Oscar-Winning Director’s New Movie
Oscar winner Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) and Golden Globe nominee Daniel Craig (Knives Out) have entered negotiations for the leading roles in the upcoming untitled movie from acclaimed filmmaker Damien Chazelle. Further details about their potential characters and plot are still being kept under wraps, but the project will reportedly take place in a prison.
Murphy’s most recent acting project was last year’s historical drama Small Things Like These, which also produced. He is currently slated to reprise his iconic roles as Thomas Shelby in Netflix’s Peaky Blinders movie The Immortal Man, and as Jim in Nia DaCosta’s 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple movie. As for Craig, he starred in last year’s Luca Guadagnino-led romantic drama Queer. He will once again return as Detective Benoit Blanc in Netflix’s next Knives Out movie, titled Wake Up Dead Man.
Who is involved in Cillian Murphy & Daniel Craig’s upcoming prison movie?
The untitled movie will be written and directed by Chazelle, who’s best known for his work on the acclaimed movies such as Whiplash, La La Land, and First Man. For his work on the Emma Stone-led musical drama, he became the youngest filmmaker to win an Oscar Award for Best Director. This marks his first directorial feature in a long while, after three years since Babylon’s a disappointing box office run.
In addition, Chazelle is also producing the project, alongside Olivia Hamilton through their Will Chickens Productions banner. Should Murphy and Craig’s deals will be finalized, production on the untitled movie would likely begin sometime this year.
