Three killed, others injured in roadside bomb blast on Maiduguri–Damboa highway

At least three people were killed and several others injured on Saturday following a roadside bomb explosion along the Maiduguri–Damboa highway in Borno State.

The explosive device, believed to have been planted by Boko Haram insurgents, detonated as passenger vehicles were traveling along the busy route.

A security official who confirmed the incident under anonymity stated, “A deadly explosion occurred today on the Maiduguri–Damboa road. Three people were confirmed dead while several others sustained serious injuries. Our prayers are with the deceased and we hope for the quick recovery of the injured.”

This is not the first time such attacks have occurred on this road. Just last week, two staff members of the Damboa Local Government Education Authority were killed in a similar roadside explosion along the same route.

Boko Haram insurgents have increasingly reverted to using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) buried along highways to target travelers and vehicles—tactics that have led to numerous casualties in recent times.

Meanwhile, Nigerian military forces continue sustained offensives in the Sambisa Forest and other terrorist hideouts across Borno State in a bid to eliminate the insurgents and restore peace to the region.
