Kristen Stewart Replaced by Mad Max: Fury Road Star in Out of This World Cast
Oscar nominee Kristen Stewart has officially dropped out of the Out of This World cast for the upcoming English-language drama movie from Spanish filmmaker Albert Serra. Stewart was originally attached to portray the leading character.
“The story follows an American delegation traveling to Russia in the midst of the Ukrainian war to try to find a solution to an economic dispute,” reads the synopsis. “The movie explores the decades-long rivalry between Russia and the U.S.”
Who is joining the Out of This World cast?
Replacing Stewart in the Out of This World cast is Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Riley Keough, who will be starring opposite F. Murray Abraham and Liza Yankovskaia. The Daisy Jones and the Six star will next be seen in Noah Baumbach’s newest coming-of-age drama Jay Kelly with George Clooney and in Karim Aïnouz’s thriller drama Rosebush Pruning with Elle Fanning. Interestingly, Stewart was also originally going to star in Aïnouz’s film adaptation, but was also replaced by Keough due to scheduling conflicts.
The upcoming project will serve as Serra’s first time directing an English movie after receiving Best Film and Best Director nominations at the 2023 César Awards for his work on the thriller drama Pacifiction. It is produced by Alice Lesort’s Les Films du Losange, Idéale Audience Group, and Andergraun Films in association with Felix Culpa and in co-production with Rosa Filmes and Forma Pro.
“The idea of this encounter with Riley Keough is something we’re truly passionate about,” Lesort said in a statement. “She is an actress of great intensity, capable of portraying complex characters with rare precision, and her sensitivity brings extraordinary depth to every project.”
