Wonder Woman’s ‘Encouraging’ DCU Future Teased After Gal Gadot’s Exit

James Gunn has shared a positive update regarding the future of Wonder Woman in the DCU. Previously, Gunn announced that the Wonder Woman prequel series was in “active development.” However, who would portray the princess of Themyscira on screen after Gal Gadot’s reported exit is a topic of curiosity among fans.

James Gunn promises ‘encouraging’ update for Wonder Woman

James Gunn was recently questioned about Wonder Woman on Threads, and he hinted at a positive future for the character in the rebooted DCU.

While the Wonder Woman prequel series, Paradise Lost, is said to be moving forward, a user asked Gunn, “Do you have any updates on Wonder Woman?” Gunn avoided revealing much and replied, “Not to be shared publicly yet but yes. Encouraging.”

After DC underwent a reboot, there were speculations regarding who would play the Amazon princess in the universe. With major DC characters like Superman getting recast, Gal Gadot is likely to be replaced as well. She last reprised the role in the 2020 movie Wonder Woman 1984.

In March 2025, Grace Caroline Currey, who appeared in DC’s Shazam! in 2019, also shared her feelings about playing Wonder Woman after getting fan-cast. She stated, “That’s been very nice to see people say that. I think getting to be in the universe at all has been such a lottery kind of feeling that I don’t know if I got to come back in any capacity, that’d be wild.”

As of now, Gunn has not made any announcements regarding who would play Wonder Woman next. However, he did share last year that Paradise Lost was in “very active development” and will move forward once they have finalized the script.

Recently, WB Discovery CEO David Zaslav conveyed that Wonder Woman is one of their main characters. He said at Warner Bros. Discovery Q1 earnings call, “When you look at the major characters with — that James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing with their 10-year plan around DC, that is to build asset value for us globally everywhere in the world, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Supergirl. So those are — we look at those as big asset builders and big differentiators.”
