Suspected vandal electrocuted while attempting to steal cables at Jigawa secretariat

A suspected vandal was electrocuted while allegedly trying to steal armored cables from an underground power facility at the Jigawa State Secretariat New Complex in Dutse.

The incident, which occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, was reported by officials from the Ministry of Works, prompting a swift response from the police.

Spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shiisu Adam, confirmed in a statement that officers led by the Divisional Police Officer of Dutse Division discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male beneath a concrete slab covering high-voltage electrical cables.

Preliminary findings suggest the individual died from electrocution while tampering with the installation.

“The body, already in a state of decomposition, was evacuated to Dutse General Hospital for further examination,” SP Shiisu said.

The police condemned the act and issued a strong warning about the dangers of tampering with live electrical infrastructure.

“This tragic incident underscores the fatal risks of vandalizing power installations. The public is strongly advised to avoid such unlawful and life-threatening activities,” the command stated.

Police have launched an investigation to determine if the deceased acted alone or was linked to a larger group. Security has since been intensified around key infrastructure in Dutse and other areas across Jigawa State.

Authorities are urging residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
