Cute Abiola Opens Up on Struggles of Balancing Navy Life with Comedy Career

Nigerian skit maker Abdulgafar Ahmad, popularly known as Cute Abiola, has opened up about the challenges he faced while juggling his career in the Nigerian Navy with his passion for content creation.

In a recent interview on HipTV, Cute Abiola recalled his time in the Navy, noting how it was one of the most crucial periods in his life. Despite the demanding nature of his military duties, he remained committed to his entertainment goals, often working six days a week to create and release new content.

Cute Abiola’s journey took a significant turn in November 2021, when he was detained by the Nigerian Navy for violating regulations concerning social media use. After his release, he was assigned the task of supervising gutter cleaning in the Navy barracks for a month as punishment. However, he announced his exit from the Navy in November 2022, citing his decision to focus entirely on his entertainment career.

Reflecting on his past, Cute Abiola shared that his time in the Navy was a defining experience, but he always knew that his passion for creating content was his true calling. He expressed that while his situation may seem tough now, it was nothing compared to the hardships he faced during his Navy days.

Now fully dedicated to his career in comedy, Cute Abiola is focused on continuing to entertain his growing audience, using his past experiences as fuel to push forward in the entertainment industry.

He said, “I’ve done a lot of things that were tougher than my current situation. I used to be in the Nigerian navy.

“That time was the most critical part of my life, and I was still able to achieve shooting content and being in the navy. That was very, very hard.

“I used to be at work from Mondays to Saturdays most times, and all my contents still used to be out there. In a week, I used to post twice or three times.

“I’m a very dedicated person because I know that I’m supposed to meet a target in my revenue. I have a target for myself, and I used that to motivate myself to make more than I made the previous month.

“I was overwhelmed with regard to the approval of my exit from the Navy by the chief of naval staff so as for me to have enough time to passionately pursue my dreams.”
