SOULM8TE Release Date Delayed for M3GAN Spin-off Movie

The SOULM8TE release date, the forthcoming M3GAN spin-off movie, has been pushed back.

SOUL8MATE is a forthcoming horror film from Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Universal Pictures. It stars Lily Sullivan, Claudia Doumit, and David Rysdahl.

When is the new release date for SOULM8TE?

Per Bloody Disgusting, while SOULM8TE originally had a January 2, 2026, release date, the movie has been bumped back by a week and will now open in theaters on January 9, 2026. It now shares a release date with a Jason Statham action thriller called Mutiny, which is directed by Jean-François Richet.

“A man (Rysdahl) acquires an Artificially Intelligent android (Sullivan) to help him cope with the recent loss of his wife,” the logline reads. “In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, the man inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.”

SOUL8MATE comes from director Kate Dolan, who previously made 2021’s You Are Not My Mother. Based on a story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Rafael Jordan, the screenplay also comes from Dolan, who rewrote an original draft by Jordan.

M3GAN was released in United States theaters in January 2023. It proved to be a huge hit for Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures, as it grossed around $181.8 million at the global box office. It stars Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ronny Chieng, and more.

A sequel, M3GAN 2.0, will hit theaters this coming summer on June 27, 2025.

The synopsis for M3GAN 2.0 reads, “Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules. Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around. With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.”
