Kevin Feige Has a 10-Year Plan for the X-Men’s Future in the MCU
Kevin Feige has a 10-year plan for the X-Men following the two upcoming Avengers movies.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in May 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. While official plot details for both films remain under wraps at this time, Doomsday and Secret Wars are both expected to officially introduce the X-Men into the MCU.
Writer Michael Lesslie has been tapped to work on a script for an MCU movie that will come after Avengers: Secret Wars, while it was also recently revealed that Ryan Reynolds is in the early stages of developing an X-Men project involving Deadpool and a handful of other characters.
What do we know about the X-Men’s future in the MCU?
According to a recent report from The Wall Street Journal, Feige “has told colleagues he has a 10-year plan” for the X-Men characters after they are properly and formally introduced into the MCU.
Whether this will be a brand-new cast or if any former X-Men actors will have prominent roles in the future going forward remains unclear at this time. Mutants have already had a presence in the MCU; notably, Hugh Jackman once again reprised his role X-Men role in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
It’s also known that a number of former X-Men stars will have a role in Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, such as Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy/Beast, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme/Mystique, James Marsden as Scott Summers/Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau/Gambit. How large of a role they’ll have in Doomsday and whether all those aforementioned actors are also returning for Secret Wars remains unclear at this time.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released in United States theaters on May 1, 2026, from Marvel Studios. Avengers: Secret Wars then follows on May 7, 2027.
