Blade Runner Video Game By Until Dawn Developer Reportedly Canceled
Supermassive Games, the developer behind Until Dawn and The Quarry, was reportedly working on a game based on the sci-fi franchise Blade Runner. However, it was canceled before it could make it into players’ hands.
Blade Runner game by Until Dawn’s Supermassive Games was in development for modern and next-gen consoles
As reported by Insider Gaming, the title of the now-canceled Supermassive Games project was Blade Runner: Time to Live. It had begun pre-production in September 2024 with a team made up of several developers who worked on The Quarry. This was to last until March 2025 with prototyping ending in September 2025.
Blade Runner: Time to Live was slated for a September 2027 release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It was also being developed for the next Xbox and PlayStation 6.
According to Insider Gaming’s source, Blade Runner: Time to Live was a “character focused, cinematic, action adventure” that featured a “compelling story blending the philosophical themes of Blade Runner with kinetic action-adventure gameplay.”
The game was set in 2065 where players would take on the role of the only Blade Runner, named So-Lange, who happens to be a vintage model Nexus-6 replicant that has somehow lived past the usual four-year lifespan.
“Journey from the teeming undercity of New Zurich 2065 to the eerie remnants of the forgotten world beyond,” read the game’s description. “Under orders to retire Rev, the mysterious and ruthless leader of an underground replicant network, you are betrayed and left for dead in a brutally hostile environment.”
The report suggests that the blame for Blade Runner: Time to Live’s cancellation is on Alcon Entertainment, the company that owns the franchise. However, specific details regarding why it was canceled are not known.
While Supermassive Games’ Blade Runner project is canceled, fans of the sci-fi franchise can look forward to the Amazon miniseries. Titled Blade Runner 2099, the series is created by Silka Luisa. The cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Hunter Schafer, Tom Burke, and more.
