Greyhound 2 Filming Start & Plot Details Unveiled, Tom Hanks to Return
Sony Pictures has officially started developing Greyhound 2, which will serve as the follow-up to Tom Hanks‘ 2020 war drama movie. Hanks has also signed on to reprise his role as Captain Ernie Krause.
What is Greyhound 2 about?
Greyhound 2 will follow “Krause and the Greyhound crew from the beaches of Normandy to the ocean in the Pacific as they help turn the tide of the war.” Production on the upcoming World War II action drama is expected to begin on January 2026 in Sydney, Australia. At the moment, the project currently has no official theatrical release date yet, and casting is still underway. Adolescence star Stephen Graham is also reportedly in negotiations to reprise his role.
The sequel will once again be directed by Aaron Schneider from a screenplay written by Hanks. Also returning from the first installment is Gary Goetzman, who is producing for Playtone. This marks Hanks and Goetzman’s latest collaboration with Apple after previously working on last year’s war drama miniseries Masters of the Air.
The 2020 movie was based on C.S. Forester’s novel The Good Shepherd. The story was set during the early days of WWII. Hanks and Graham were joined by Rob Morgan (Stranger Things, Daredevil), Oscar nominee Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), Karl Glusman (The Neon Demon), and more.
“In Greyhound, an international convoy of 37 Allied ships, led by captain Ernest Krause (Hanks) in his first command of a U.S. destroyer, crosses the treacherous waters of the Black Pit in the North Atlantic while hotly pursued by wolf packs of Nazi U-boats,” reads the synopsis. “With no air cover protection for 5 days, the captain and his convoy must battle the surrounding enemy in order to give the allies a chance to win the war.”
