Ogun prosecutes two for assault, obstruction of duty

The Ogun State Government has arraigned two individuals, Abdulazeez Anidugbe and Ibikunle Kazeem, before the Magistrate Court in Isabo on a two-count charge of public assault and obstruction of public officers from performing their duties.

The two were arraigned following an assault on town planning officers of the Zonal Rounda Authority while on official duty.

The individuals allegedly incited a mob to attack officers of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, OGPDPA, as they attempted to remove an illegal structure erected on the right-of-way.

Waploaded reported that a celebrity, Idris Okikiola, also known as Portable, similarly assaulted officers some months ago while they were carrying out their official duties.

His actions were widely condemned, raising concerns about the increasing frequency of assaults and general lawlessness directed towards government officials.

Reacting to the incident, the acting general manager of the authority, Itunu Jolaoluwa, strongly condemned the act, stating that such behaviour contravenes Section 44 of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Regulation, 2022.

Jolaoluwa urged that government officials be allowed to carry out their legitimate duties without harassment, abuse or assault from the public.

“Any complaints from the public can be forwarded to the office, instead of abusing or assaulting any staff,” she said.
