Passion of the Christ 2: Jim Caviezel Explains Different Mindset for Sequel
Jim Caviezel is currently preparing to return to the role of Jesus Christ for the upcoming Passion of the Christ 2, and recently opened up about how he’s preparing.
What did Jim Caviezel say about Passion of the Christ 2?
Speaking during a recent appearance on the Arroyo Grande show, Caviezel said that this time around, he hopes to “enjoy” the process of making the movie more than he did for the 2004 film.
“I want to enjoy this one more than I did the other one, I got too far over my skis,” said Caviezel. “On the other one, I was concerned that it was not in Aramaic, I said, ‘We’re not doing this.’ Well, that was a different world. But trust, I really do trust what [Mel Gibson] adds.”
Caviezel also reflected on how, instead of journaling his experiences, he’s using the experiences he has as the journal, and won’t be taking this chance for granted.
“So really experiencing the resurrection, because you know you’re not going to get this many shots,” Caviezel said. “You know, I’m never going to get another shot at this again. And I remember somebody telling me you should take a journal. I said, my journal is right here. I remember it all, but I wish I had, you know, documented some of the stuff that I went through.”
The sequel will once again be directed by Gibson, with Jim Caviezel reprising his role as Jesus, whose miraculous resurrection will be the center of the next installment. The Oscar-winning director previously teased that he has co-written two different scripts for the project. At the moment, it currently has no official release date or distributor.
Earlier this year, while on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Gibson said he wasn’t sure when the film would begin filming, noting that there were several high-concept ideas for the movie that have to be worked on.
“I’m hoping next year sometime. There’s a lot required because it’s an acid trip,” he said. “My brother and I and Randall all sort of congregated on this. So there’s some good heads put together, but there’s some crazy stuff. And I think in order to really tell the story properly you have to really start with the fall of the angels, which means you’re in another place, you’re in another realm. You need to go to hell.”
The Passion of the Christ depicted the final days of Jesus Christ’s life and his crucifixion. It also starred Maia Morgenstern as Mary, Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene, Francesco De Vito as Peter, Luca Lionello as Judas, and more. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film was still a commercial success. It earned a worldwide gross of $612 million against a reported budget of around $30 million.
